Highlights of some of the fun we have!
We have been talking about the importance of a healthy diet, we have discussed why it is important to eat a range of different foods. We have showed a lot of interest in Autumn and harvest so we decided to make a vegetable soup which included carrots, potatoes, parsnips, sweet potatoes and butternut squash. We used our cutting and grating skills to prepare the vegetables for the soup… we can’t wait to try it! Tomorrow we are going to make bread to accompany this…yum yum!
Keeping Fit and enjoying PE.
Our first topic this half term is Space. Each classroom in the school has a space themed name, ours are Little Stars and Little Moons. We have really enjoyed learning Space facts so far… especially facts about the moon!
What a fantastic day we have had finding out about the similarities and differences of animals. We met some mini beasts and guessed what they were based on their characteristics as well as holding some furry friends. The tractor ride was great fun (and very bumpy) but we had to watch out for a crocodile in the river!
This half term we are looking at the seaside. On our creative table we have been creating our under the sea pictures using different materials.
We have been out with the parachute. Our story of the week is ‘Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson so we put our own spin on the game cat and mouse. We also focused on positional language we went under, through and over the parachute… we even created a big snail shell!
We have had so much fun exploring the different instruments and finding out what sounds they make. We have even tried creating a rhythm to go alongside songs.
Look at part of our wonderful outdoor area. We have a writing/ reading shed and a planting area. We have planted onions, rocket, radishes, cucumber and tomatoes once they have grew we will enjoy them at snack time!
We love snack time! Every day we have different snack monitors to hand out the snack. The rest of the class wait patiently in a line to choose their piece of fruit. We use this time to help with our speaking and listening skills alongside using our manners.
We have been outside to do our maths. We linked our topic ‘pollution’ to our maths lessons and we had so much fun! We counted the cars that passed our school gate and we recorded our findings on a tally chart.
We have been learning how to control the Beebots.
Reception had a visit from the dentist. We talked about what foods had lots of sugar and how often we should brush our teeth. She was very impressed with what we already knew.
In our Friendship group we made racing/superhero cars, we even got the chance to race them.
In the Techno den have been looking at coding using the Coda-pillars and the coda-pillar app on the iPads.
Adventures in Space.
We are so lucky to have our very own special Zen Den to do guided reading. It is so calm and relaxing!
What a fantastic morning learning some great skills with Judo Dan!
What a wonderful day we have had with the story teller. We have collaged and printed some beautiful designs. We looked at large and small patterns and used a variety of textures to create different effects. We then went on an Elmer parade to show off our amazing work!
STEM Club.
We have read ‘The Way Back Home’ by Oliver Jeffers. We have used it as a starting point for lots of learning and fun. We have created a spaceship to take us to the moon, made Walkie talkies, created our own aliens, painted space pictures and even made moon biscuits!
Bean bag fun in PE.
We have been to the park to take part in some team building activities, our challenge was to work in a team to build a home for a dinosaur using different natural resources that we found. We have had so much fun and we got very messy but we all had smiles on our faces… we can’t wait for next week!
We passed Jigsaw Jeanie round and we shared what we would like to be when we grow up. We also spoke about what we need to do to achieve our dreams and goals.
As part of Safer Internet Day, we have been talking about how to keep safe online. We looked scenarios which involved characters from traditional tales and we discussed what we would/should do if we were ever in that situation.
This morning we picked our favourite toppings to have on our pancake. We had a choice of lemon juice, raisins, bananas, strawberries, chocolate spread and jam… we have really enjoyed tasting them!
Reception have had a wonderful World Book Day. They read with children from Year 4 and Year 6, had a visit to the library, created our own bookmarks and swapped books with each other.
