SEN Transition

How we support children/young people with SEN starting at our school

Children who start Cestria are always welcomed with a huge smile. Before starting our school, we send out packs which has images of our environment, key places and staff. This is to allow children to process what it looks like before entering. We always provide visits to nurseries or alternative schools if necessary. Children can come for planned visits and meet the staff. We also offer a phased induction if this is needed.

How we support children/young people with SEN moving between classes in our school

Transition meetings are held between teachers, parents and children. Children with SEND have additional visits to their new classroom and they are given the opportunity to ask any questions. The teacher is also able to explain individually the expectations of the new class. This is also the opportunity to provide the child with additional resources they may need. Eg. A calming area.

How we support children/young people with SEN leaving our school

If a child is transitioning to a new school before leaving in Year 6 we ensure a meeting is arranged with the new school. We support parents and children on visits if parents would like support and we always liaise with the new school. We send all information and records to ensure they have all of the necessary documents to fully support the child. If a child is leaving in year 6, we communicate with the secondary school and arrange a meeting with parents. We discuss the child’s current needs and what support we would recommend in secondary school.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
